In response of research and practical demands of students in the medical science related field and encouragement of exchanges and cooperation with international medical science industries, the Department of Medical Science Industries of Chang Jung Christian University (CJCU DMSI) utilized grants received from the Ministry of Education (MOE) and sent four students to American College of Acupuncture &Oriental Medicine in Houston, Texas, the USA for the six-week internship. The internship aimed to help students to get to know theories and practical applications of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) education in the US, expand international horizon, and expose to diverse cultures. Students were expected to increase knowledge in clinic practices of TCM education in the US and develop capabilities in advanced learning and job employment.
During the internship, students appreciated acceptance and trust of TCM and observed application effectiveness of TCM in the US society. Additionally, they were impressed of the emphasis of “inspirational and interactive teaching and
learning” in the US classrooms. They came to understand the importance of active learning and independent thinking.
