International students can apply for dormitory accommodations (refer to Application Form for On-Campus Housing).

We have in total 4 buildings of dormitories, with 4 students in the room except for The First Dormitory. The First Dormitory is designed for the convenience of students with difficulties. The Second Dormitory are for first-year female students with a public bathroom on every floor. The Third Dormitory are also for first-year male students with public bathroom. The Forth Dormitory are available for both female and male students divided in the middle, with the right section for male accommodations and left for female. The Fourth dormitory has private bathroom, therefore a narrower room. Dormitory rooms are approximately. International students generally share a room with 1 or 2 roommates.

Dormitory Fees

Dormitory fees are posted on the website of the Student Life and Residential Service Section. Terms and conditions applies to the fee.

Room deposit and keys

Students are required to pay a NT$3,000 room deposit that is will be refunded when they check out of the dormitory. After paying the deposit, they are provided with a door card (which opens a sliding glass door from the lobby of the dormitory) and a their room key. Students should check their rooms first handedly when they move in and report any damage within 24 hours.

Dorm hours

The sliding glass doors on the ground floors of the dormitories are locked between the hours of midnight and 5:30 a.m. Lights in corridors and rooms are turned off at 1 a.m, except during examination weeks.

Air conditioning and hot water

Dormitory rooms are air-conditioned, but to conserve energy and reduce environmental impact, air conditioning is supplied only during the hours of 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. to 2 a.m. (hours are extended during periods of warm weather). It is customary in Taiwan to shower in the evening, and hot water supply is only available from 5:30 p.m. to 12 midnight.

Drinking water

Water dispenser with hot and cold water are available from water dispensers on each floor. In Taiwan, it is not common to drink water from the tap; however, most people do use tap water, to brush their teeth. Remember that carrying your own water bottle is eco-friendlier than buying bottled water.

Laundry facilities

Coin-operated washing machines, spin dryers, and tumble dryers are available on each floor of the dormitories.

Power Supply

The standard voltage of electric power supply in Taiwan is 110V. It is best to bring your own adapter since the electric plug in Taiwan may differ from your countries.

Internet

All of the dormitory rooms are provided with cable and Wi-Fi connections.

Room supplies

Students are expected to provide their own toiletries, slippers (in Taiwan, it is customary to remove one’s shoes when entering living quarters), hair dryers, cleaning supplies, flashlights, desk lamps, and room telephones. The University arranges for vendors to sell daily supplies on campus on registration day. Items for sale including bedding, toiletries, plastic basins, slippers, detergents, soaps, stationeries, and school supplies. Western students may find Taiwanese mattresses hard; it is recommended to bring their own camping foam or air mattress if they desire more cushioning.

Prohibited items

Except for personal computers, most electrical appliances are prohibited in the dormitories. Prohibited items including televisions, refrigerators, hot plates, electric cookers, and hot water dispensers. Gas stoves are also prohibited.

Waste disposal

In tropical countries, it will only be plausible to take out wet wastes every day—if you don’t, it will probably attract insects into your dorm room! Dormitory residents may dispose their trash in the dumpsters located behind the dormitory buildings.

A reminder from our president and vice president: CJCU is a smoke-free university.

Taiwan's smoking ban:

On January 1, 2009, Taiwan became the 17th country in the world to ban indoor smoking at public facilities. This ban applies to the indoor areas of colleges and universities, theaters, restaurants, roofed transport stations, mass transportation vehicles, taxis, and most other indoor facilities. Hotels are included, except in smoking areas with separate ventilation systems. CJCU implement its own smoking ban that applies to the entire campus.
